She could feel His presence before she even opened her eyes. The minute He entered her room, she knew that He had come. Why did she ever doubt He would? How many other times had she sat here hoping He would turn up, willing Him to make Himself known to her and He hadn’t. She couldn’t count any. He was faithful. It was her that wasn’t. There were so many things that would pull on her time. Normal, mundane things like housework, children etc. Then there were other distractions that she thought were necessary to do, like reading and replying to emails, her favourite programme, chatting with a friend. Even going out and talking or singing to others about Him, not that she did that as much as she would have liked to, the other things got in the way too often. Why did she do this so rarely…..yes she did it some nights of the week before bed, but she normally found herself drifting off to sleep. Even then, He would come and speak to her while she slept, paint pictures upon her mind, metaphors that would cause her to push into Him to discover the deeper meaning always hidden in them. He would always find a way to draw her closer into Him. Here, He’s come again…….she realises that it is not really her that is waiting for Him, but that He has been there all along, hoping she would take the time, willing her to still her mind, her body and to give Him the chance to let the whispers that have been at the back of her mind all day, actually begin to penetrate the fog of busyness. “Worthy, Oh worthy”, she begins to sing, but He puts a finger to her lips. “Shhh, Be still and receive.” He says. Love, so strong, so pure, crashes over her in waves. She couldn’t speak now even if she wanted to. Liquid love that washes away tiredness, worries, doubts. Perfect love that casts away all fears. Rest, perfect rest, this is the place she needs to enter into and make her dwelling. A thought barges it’s way in to her head, some planning to bring more of them to Him. “You don’t have to take it by violence all the time, let quietness and trust be your strength.” He whispers. These words press into her heart, and she knows them to be true. Finally she surrenders completely and another wave of love takes with it any lingering doubts. It is sealed. Complete. She gets up from the chair, looks back, sure she has left a puddle of her melted self on the chair. “I didn’t spend very long”, she thought. “Long enough to learn”, was the whisper back. She smiles a secret smile that always comes after having been in His presence. He always brings something new, shows her something new about Himself, and it never ceases to amaze her, that there is always more to discover. Not just about Him, not just about her, but even about the process of waiting for Him.
